What is “An Opportunity for Life”?
Face the Children has been serving children victimized by Abuse, Abandonment, and Dangerous Neglect (AADN), since 2005. Based in San Pablo City, Laguna, we have served kids from the rural and project areas of Manila, as well as many neighboring cities within Laguna and the Quezon province. We have experienced the joy of bringing these children into our FTC family, and also the pain of youth walking away from it all for what is apparently going to be a road of hardship and struggle.
We have had to ask ourselves many questions over the past 11 years. Who are we? What do we really want to accomplish? And how do we define success? We have produced high school valedictorians, college graduates, worship leaders, and Sunday morning preachers. We have also experienced youth leave our care to be a mother at the age of 15 years old. There are many things to consider when serving AADN children. They have been pushed, pulled, and usually hurt by the people closest to them. They have oftentimes been pushed to the edge mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Education is important, and it offers a tangible opportunity for the children’s future. However, it is only one part of the equation. At Face The Children we aim to help children at the holistic level, that is spiritually, physically, educationally, and emotionally. This can only happen by the grace of God and through wisdom that only He can give. Success for us includes realizing the fact that God has a specific purpose for their lives. What else does basic success look like for FTC?
- When we rescue and protect children.
- When we help children overcome the pain of the past.
- When we give children the opportunity to grow closer to Jesus.
- When we give opportunity for the children to succeed in various areas, such as serving others, active ministry involvement, academics, and athletics.
From this point it is up to the individual child to have the will, determination, and focus to turn opportunity into genuine, lifelong, success. Our prayer for every child is that they will catch God’s vision for their life, and bring their actions and will in alignment with achieving it.
